3 weeks in – and it’s my mind that needs some help…

When I was 25 years old I went on a transcendental meditation course in London. Can’t really remember why because I don’t recall my life being particularly stressful at the time.

Anyway, I “graduated” and have been meditating on and off ever since – although I know that to get the full benefit, it should be done regularly.

And now, with all the pressures of being cooped up, I have returned to it with a vengeance.

I was discussing this with a friend on a video call and she poo-poohed the whole concept – but that’s because she had totally got the wrong end of the stick and thought meditation was all about yoga, weird bodily contortions and religion.

Nothing could be further from the truth!

It’s well known that if you’re really stressed about something, the best thing to do is to take some slow deep breaths to calm down.

It works – and meditation just takes things a step further. If you can do it for a minimum of 10 minutes each day (20 minutes is even better) then you’ll notice a whole range of benefits, including stress reduction, better sleep, more energy and a deeper sense of contentment – all things which are definitely in short supply at the moment.

And the really good news is that it’s so easy to learn – as long as you don’t expect and major character change in the first day or so! Like anything to do with the mind or body, little and often adds up to a big long term change.
